Innovation Showcase: The Gaming App That’s Helping Players

Our Innovation Hours Program gives our employees time to work on their own passion projects every week. As part of this series, we are highlighting how individuals are working on themselves, working on their startups, working on their community, and working on the labs.

A Helpful App for Indecisive Players

We recently held an Innovation Showcase during Innovation Hours where employees could discuss and share their projects. Jordan Cuker, Software Engineer, who joined 1904 labs in February 2020, has developed Legends of Runeterra Play Around Helper -- a companion app for a digital multiplayer card game. Jordan, like most of us, found himself facing a major challenge while playing: what move should I make next? The feeling of decision paralysis caused by the large number of plays your opponent could have at any moment is the worst. To combat this issue, Jordan decided to write a helper application that would allow him to quickly filter down possibilities into a more realistic view of what to consider when playing. This gave him an easy excuse to experiment with new frameworks while also sneaking in some game time!

Three weeks into the project, the app has entered maintenance mode -- meaning Jordan needs to update it when new expansions are released. He hopes that his app will help him, and other players, make more informed decisions when encountering an unknown deck.
