Our Innovation Hours Program gives our employees time to work on their own passion projects every week. As part of this series, we are highlighting how individuals are working on themselves, working on their startups, working on their community, and working on the labs.
The Author and The Book
Josh Fischer -- an Agile Engineering Lead at 1904labs and a servant leader within our AI Enabled Customer Service R&D team -- is one of the great stories stemming from our Innovation Hours Program.
For the last two years, Josh has been writing Grokking Streaming Systems -- a book that teaches people how to use real-time, event-based, technology systems; for those interested, Josh’s book is a great source for learning the foundational concepts of this type of technology.
Like many of us when working on a project that takes tremendous time, the most challenging part can be sticking with that project; Josh has experienced that challenge. As a father, and step-father, to six children, finding the time to be a full-time dad, write, and rewrite Grokking Streaming Systems was no easy path, but the personal growth Josh has experienced in this process trumps the challenges that came with it. Over these two years, Josh has learned many new things -- the most impactful being how to effectively write his book while balancing his duties as a dad and a partner.
On The Path to Print
Grokking Streaming Systems is on the path to being in production and ready to print. Josh is using his Innovation Hours to make minor modifications before sending to Manning Publications --the book’s publisher-- for the start of production.
